Imperial Oil refinery fire under investigation

The cause of a fire, which broke out outside the Imperial Oil refinery in east Edmonton, remains under investigation.

No one was injured in Thursday morning incident

Company officials say the fire broke out near the asphalt storage facility.

The cause of a firethat broke out outside the Imperial Oil refinery in east Edmonton remains under investigation.

Officials with Imperial Oil saidthe"small fire"began at the asphalt loading area on the eastern side of the Strathcona Refinery property earlyThursday morning.

The fire was quickly extinguished and the all-clear given to resume operations was given at 7 a.m.

No one was injured in the incident.

J.C. Goddardlives in the Beverly neighbourhood, just north of the refinery.

He was getting ready for work, shortly after 5:30 a.m, when he heard a troubling thud.

"I'm sitting here on my couch, and it sounded like one of my dogs had jumped in the bedroom, but then my front window started to rattle," Goddard said in an interview with CBC News.

"And then very shortly after that, the horns, which sound like fog horns, went off rather rather quickly and they went off for about twominutes.

"It was enough to rattle the front windows, and I have big front windows, and I said, 'Okay. That's not normal.'"

The company said it has notifiedStrathconaCounty emergency response and the community of theemergency.

Imperial Oil said it does notanticipate the incident will affect site operations.
