Man accused of aiding Mountie killer seeks bail

The second of two men accused of helping James Roszko kill four Mounties in northern Alberta was in an Edmonton court Friday asking for bail.

Dennis Cheeseman, 23, was arrested in July 2007 onaccusationshe aidedRoszko,and was charged with four counts of first-degree murder in the shooting deaths of constables Brock Myrol, Peter Schiemann, Anthony Gordon and Leo Johnston at a farm near Mayerthorpe, Alta., in 2005.

He has been in custody since his arrest.

His brother-in-law Shawn Hennessey, 28, was arrested and charged along with Cheeseman.

Hennessey, however,was released on $550,000 bail last month, though the Crown intends to appeal that decision, it announced Friday.

The two men from Barrhead, Alta., are accused of aiding and abetting Roszko even though police said neither suspect pulled the trigger or was even there when the officers were killed.

Details of Cheeseman's bail hearing can't be reported. A decision was not expected Friday.

A preliminaryhearing for the pair on their chargesis set for May 12 in Stony Plain, just west of Edmonton.
