A 19-year-old man has been charged in the killing of a woman who was shot in a LRT station last week, Edmonton police said Wednesday.

Colton Barry Ferguson is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Heather Rae Thurier.

Thurier, 23, was shot after what police said was a conversation which escalated into a confrontation at the Stadium LRT station about 10:20 p.m. Friday.

The medical examiner now confirms Thurier died from a single gunshotto the head.

Ferguson is also charged with assault with a weapon for allegedly swinging his weapon at Thurier's brother. He also faces several firearms-related charges.

Police are searching for a red and white backpack belonging to the accused that they believe may have been dropped between the Stadium LRT station and a gas station near 97th Street and 118th Avenue.

They are asking people who live in the area to check their yards for the bag.
