A look back at the Holiday Inn pub on St. Patrick's Day in 1981, where a lively rendition of "McNamaras Band" is played and enjoyed by patrons on their lunch hour.

Each year, people around the world embrace their inner 'Irish' on March 17 in celebration of St. Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland.

That was definitely the story in Edmonton 35 years ago, when dozens of revellers gathered at the Holiday Inn pub for the traditional green beer and sing-along.

It may be tough to not tap your toes as you listen to McNamara's Band, a traditional Irish pub reel based on St. Mary's Fife and Drum Band.

Dating back to the late 1800s, the song has been a staple of many St. Patrick's Day parties since.

In this report from 1981, the CBC's Alf Cryderman shows that even on a lunch hour, St. Patrick's Day can still be enjoyed.

The stubby beer bottles on the tables might also put a smile on your face.
