Mark Marek, Best Gore site owner, committed to stand trial

Mark Marek, the owner of the Edmonton-based website that allegedly hosted a graphic video at the centre of the Luka Magnotta murder case, will stand trial.

Marek was charged with one count of corrupting morals under the Criminal Code in July 2013

Mark Marek, the owner of an Edmonton-based website, has been charged with one count of corrupting morals under the Criminal Code.

Mark Marek, the owner of the Edmonton-based website that allegedly hosted a graphic video at the centre of the Luka Magnotta murder case, will stand trial.

Marek, 38, was charged in July 2013 with one count of corrupting morals under the Criminal Code.He was charged following what police said was a "complex" investigationlasting more than a year.

Edmonton homicide detectives began investigating the Best Gore website and the video in June 2012 following the slaying of Jun Lin in Montreal.

Magnotta, 32, is charged with killing Lin, a 33-year-old Chinese university student in Montreal, filming and broadcasting the alleged act and mailing body parts to Canadian political parties.

Marek also applied to lift an order preventing him from accessing the internet except for his defence. That requestwas denied. Marek is set to be arraigned Oct. 17.
