Measles case confirmed in Edmonton

Health officials have confirmed a case of measles in Edmonton and Alberta Health Services is asking people who may have been exposed to keep an eye out for symptoms.

AHSsays people may have been exposed last month attwo west Edmonton businesses. It's asking anyone who visited West End Registries on170thStreet on March 25 or 26 to watch for symptoms of the disease.

They are also warning people who visited the Callingwood Safeway store on 178th Street on the evening of March 25 that they may also have beenexposed.

Anyone who does notice symptoms, which include fever, coughing, runny nose and a splotchy red rash, should contact Health Link Alberta by phone before visiting a clinic to stop the spread of the disease.

Health officials say those who have never had disease before and who are not vaccinated are at risk.

40 cases of measles were reported in southern Alberta in November of last year. More recently, health officials in Calgary have confirmed two new cases of the disease there Wednesday.
