Oct. 5, 2004 - Edmonton's long baseball history at Telus Field

The year 2004 brought about the end of the Trappers baseball team in Edmonton. However, baseball in our city does have a long, storied past.

Baseball lives on with the Prospects, who having been playing at Telus field since 2012. Their home opener this season is May 28 against the Okotoks Dawgs.

Renfrew Park opened on the site where Telus Field is now in 1933.Not even a fire in August 1950 could shut the park down for long, but did lead to a steel grandstand being constructed.

It wasn't until 1983 that the park was re-named "John Ducey Park," following the death of Edmonton's "Mr. Baseball," John Ducey.

The Edmonton Trappers had a successful time at John Ducey Park, winning three Pacific Coast League championships.

Telus Field was built in 1995 and replaced John Ducey Park as the place where the Trappers finished out their run in Edmonton.
