Paris attacks stun Edmonton woman living in French capital

An Edmonton woman and her husband found themselvesuncomfortably close to Friday night'sattacks in Paris.

Amelia Shultz-McPherson and her husband had just arrived at their Paris apartment from dinner when a friend textedher about the attacks not far away.

"I got a message from a friend saying that something was happening in our neighbourhood involving a shooting and we should stay in, so we did," she said in an email to CBC.

"Aside from being horrified, we are fine," she said.

Shultz-McPhersonsaid whilewatching coverage onCBC News, they were stunned to see aphotograph taken just a few metres from their front door.

"The news feed was blocked here because police didn't want the perpetrators to be getting updates, so for a short while as far as we knew there was a guy on a killing spree standing at our front door."

Shultz-McPherson, an Edmonton musician who played with the psychedelic rock band The LadMags,moved to Paris in October.

"I'm heartbroken for this city," she said."I'm sick to my stomach about it."

Senseless and horrifying

Alberta Premier Rachel Notley expressed shock and heartbreak for the victims and their families.

"Alberta stands in solidarity with the people of France," she said in a written statement Friday.

"On behalf of all Albertans, I offer my condolences to those who have lost loved ones in these senseless and horrifying attacks and I hope for a full recoveryfor those who are injured."
