Investigators are looking for Travis Edward Vader, 38, described as a person of interest in the McCanns' disappearanceand possiblyarmed and dangerous.

Vaderhas no fixed address but he and his family come from MacKay, Alta.

The McCanns were last seen July 3, when they left their home in St. Albert headed for British Columbia. Their motorhome was found on July 5, burned to a shell.

Vader has a long criminal history dating back to 1995, when he was convicted of stealing a vehicle.

Already wanted by police

Hewas wanted on several outstanding warrants before police started looking for him in connection with the McCanns' disappearance.

In his hometown, residents like Ian Kennedy say the possibilityVader could return home is unsettling.

"You are concerned about safety and whatnot, especially in a small community," he said.

"People lock your doors a little more often and stuff like that that [you] might not be a little used to but, yeah, you have to take precautions. You don't want to leave yourself open to anything."

Herb Nicholls, who has known Vader since he was a teenager, hopes he will come forward.

"He was a good kid, a hard worker," Nicholls said.

"He'd done really well in the oilfield until the oilfield went sour and stuff. And he needs to face his demons and come out no matter if he has done anything this time or not."

Police havewarnedthat Vader could be armed and ask anyone who sees him to contact RCMP rather than approach him.
