Travis Vader to remain in jail after being denied bail

Travis Vader appeared frustrated and upset in an Edmonton courtroom Friday after a judge refused to overturn a decision denying him bail.

Vader appearedfrustrated and upset in an Edmonton courtroom Fridayafter ajudge refused to overturn a decision denying him bail.

Last summer Vaderwas charged with assaulting his former fiancee.

Police believe while out on bail last month,Vaderphoned the woman, who was eight months pregnant, tellingher he had been clean for five months and had a good job lined up. He expressed hope he could see the baby after the birth.

But police said healsotried to convince her todrop thecharge against him.

Days later he was arrested, charged with attempting to obstruct justice andreturned tocustody in November.

Court documents obtained byCBC News Thursday revealedVaderhopes to spend time with anewborn baby upon his release.

Vader is still facing a trial on first-degree murder charges in the disappearance of seniors Lyle and MarieMcCann, who were last seen leaving St. Albert for a road trip in British Columbia in July 2010. Their burnedRV was found days later near Edson, Alta. Their remains were never found.

Vaderwas re-arrestedin the McCann case lastDecember, 10months after the charges were stayed.

He has repeatedly denied having any involvement with the McCanns' disappearance.

Vader's trial on thefirst-degree murder charges is scheduled forMarch.
