$1.5M in marijuana seized in Hamilton grow-op

Hamilton police seized over $1.5 million in marijuana during two raids in the city on Tuesday.

Hamilton police seized over $1.5 million in marijuana during two raids in the city on Tuesday.

The first happened at an east end property around 10 a.m., police say. Officers entered the property and found a "sophisticated grow operation" that included tens of thousands of dollars worth of lighting, filters and equipment, police say.

Investigators seized a total of 1,000 marijuana plants in various stages of growth, 70 pounds of processed marijuana, illegal mushrooms and six vials of hash oil. Six people were arrested.

Later the same day, vice and drug investigators executed a second warrant at a downtown home. The same people own both homes, police say.

Inside, officers located 386 marijuana plants in various stages of growth.

Six people were charged with two counts of production or marijuana, two counts of possession of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking and possession of cannabis resin.

Two of those people were also charged with proceeds of crime under $5,000.
