Falling steel kills man in Stoney Creek

A man is dead after a steel coil fell on him in an industrial accident in Stoney Creek, police say.

Incident was second industrial accident on Thursday

A man is dead after a steel coil fell on him in an industrial accident in Stoney Creek, police say.

The incident happened around 11:48 a.m., when first responders rushed to JANCO Steel Limited, which is at 925 Arvin Avenue.

"Officers attended the scene and established that a male had died as a result of a steel coil falling on top of him," a police news release reads.

Police say they are not releasing the man's identity, as his family has not yet been notified.

The Ministry of Labour is now heading up the investigation, police say.

The incident was the second industrial accident reported Thursday. A worker was alsotrapped under a concrete slab on a Flamborough construction site.
