16-year-old Lincoln boy faces charges after 'fabricated' armed abduction

A 16-year-old boy from Lincoln is facing charges after police say reports that an armed suspect abducted him turned out to befalse.

Police say he faces charges for public mischief, theft of a motor vehicle, and theft under $5,000

A 16-year-old boy from Lincoln is facing charges after police say reports that an armed suspect abducted him turned out to befalse.

On Tuesday morning at roughly 10:40 a.m., Niagara police say they responded to a report of the abduction near King Street and Nineteenth Street.

When officers arrived, they found the 16-year-old with no injuries. Police say they also found a stolen vehiclenearby.

Uniform officers, the K9 unit, and the Emergency Task Unit, were all on scene, and schools in the area were advisedto go into hold and secure.

At 12:45 p.m., investigators declared the area was safe and told the public and schools it was OK to stop hiding.

Later on Tuesday, police say they learned the alleged abduction never happened.

Police say the teenager stole a vehicle on Monday from Haldimand County. Investigators also say later that day, hestole gas from a station in St. Catharines.

The teen has been released on an appearance notice andis expected to appear at court in October in St. Catharines.
