Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett tests positive for COVID-19

Long-time MPP for Haldimand-Norfolk Toby Barrett says he and his wife have tested positive for COVID-19.

Haldimand-Norfolk MPP Toby Barrett says he has tested positive for COVID-19.

On Wednesday, the PC MPPposted confirmation on Twitter that he and his wife had both contracted the virus.

"I wanted to take this opportunity to inform my constituents that I have tested positive for COVID-19," he wrote.

"I have been doing well, following guidelines from public health, working from home, and taking all necessary precautions including proper contact tracing."

Barett said his wife, Cari, was hospitalized with the virus at Joseph Brant in Burlington.

"[She] isdoing well and will be coming home soon," he wrote.

Barrett has served as MPPfor seven terms. He first won the seat in 1995.

Earlier in May, Barrett had posted a photo sharing that he had received the COVID-19 vaccine.

Bobbi Ann Brady, Barrett's executive assistant, told CBCNews that his test was confirmed as a U.K. variant, and that it was contracted prior to receiving his shot.
