Hamilton reports 147 new cases Thursday as outbreaks grow

Hamilton reported 147 new cases of COVID-19 on Thursday as multiple outbreaks across the city continued to grow.

There are 36 ongoing outbreaks, the two recent ones being at theAssured Automotive Hamilton Mountain location and Medallion Corporation office at 47 Bold St. Two staff tested positive at each of those locations.

The outbreak at station 12 of the Hamilton Fire Department increased from two to six cases. Cases at Good Shepherd Women's Services also jumped from two to seven cases.

The outbreak at Juravinski Hospital Unit F4 has increased from five to eight cases, and St. Thomas More Children's Centre has doubled to four COVID-19 casestotal.

Mission Services Shelter Overflow East Hamilton location and Rygiel Supports for Community Living both increased to three cases.

Multiple outbreaks rise by one

Each of the following outbreaks added one new positive case on Thursday. Here's where they stand:

• Aryzta/Oakrun Farm Bakery with 40 cases.

• National Steel Car with34 cases.

• First Class Children's Centre with 10 cases.

• Evergreen Manor with20 cases.

• Lexsan Electrical Woodward Ave. wastewater treatment plant with four cases.

• CriticallOntario with four cases.

The outbreak at Goulet Cleaning Waterdownhas ended. It had a total of five cases.

There are 1,204 people with the virus in Hamilton right now.

Of the total 18,110 cases to hit the city during the pandemic, 89.5 per cent of them are marked as resolved.Three-hundred and sixty six people have died.The average amount of new cases is 154 daily.

Brant

There are 29 new cases in Brant, bringing its total overall cases to 2,833. There are 163 active cases and 2,650 considered resolved.

Twenty people have died, and 13people are in hospital with COVID-19.

There have been 55,947doses of the vaccine administered.

Haldimand-Norfolk

The counties ofHaldimand and Norfolk have reported a combined2,395cases throughout the pandemic. There are 232 active cases,and 2,117 peoplethat have recovered.

Forty-one deaths are considered COVID-related.

There have been 41,739 doses of the vaccine administered.

The health unit says it's transitioning to the provincial vaccine appointment booking systems. People can use the provincial tool from May 19 onward to book appointments. If someone is booking up to May 19, they can do so through the health unit's tool.

Niagara

Active cases in Niagara dipped down below the 2,000 threshold on Thursday, decreasing to 1,968.

There were 74 new cases reported, bringing the number of cases seen through the pandemicto 14,434. Of those, 12,053 are resolved.

There have been 395 people who have died.

So far, workers have administered193,402doses of the vaccine to Niagara residents.

Halton

Haltonreleased an updated vaccination schedule on Thursday for "all age-based groups."Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr said in a release that the move was based on "expected supply" of the vaccinations.

The previous schedule had applied to those who can't work from home. People aged 50 and older who can't work from home were allowed to book appointments as of May 3, while those 40 and over joined them on Wednesday.

People in their 30s who can't work from home can book appointments in Halton as of May 7 and those 16 and older who can't work from home can book as of May 10. Attending school in-person does not qualify, the region says.

Here are newly released dates for the general age groups:

• Ages 50 and up: Friday, May 10.
• Ages 40 and up: Wednesday, May 12.
• Ages 30 and up: Friday, May 14.
• Ages 16 and up: Wednesday, May 19.

Halton said residents with at-risk health conditions can book their appointment "when they fit" into one of the eligible groups listed above. Those with highest and high-risk health conditions have been eligible to book Halton appointments since April 16.

Haltonreported 137 new COVID-19 cases on Thursdayfora total of 15,842casesreported during the pandemic.

There have been 214 people who have died and 14,758 people who have recovered.

Forty-four of the new cases were in Burlington. The city has 261 active cases and has seen 53deaths.

There have been 4,269cases in Halton that were a COVID-19 variant.

Six Nations

Six Nations of the Grand Riverhas 35active cases. There have been 522 cases overall and 476are resolved. Eleven people have died.

There have been 17B117 cases and 32more cases that screened positiveas avariantof concern.

One person is in hospital.
