The extreme heat continueson Mondayin Hamilton withhumidex values expected to reach 43.

Environment Canada is calling it the most significant heat event in the past few years.

It's expected to be sunny with a mix of sun and cloud later during the day, with a 60 per cent chance of showers in the afternoon.

Environment Canadasays a cold front is expected to pass through southern Ontario this afternoon, bringing in a slightly cooler and less humid air mass.

However, the weather agency says daytime highsare still expected to be in the low thirties over the next two days.

People can also anticipate overnight low temperatures in the high teens, Environment Canada says, providing some relief from the extreme heat that was felt over the long weekend.

But the relief won't last long with high temperatures and humidity expected to return Wednesday, with highs near the mid-thirties and humidex near the mid-forties.

Overnight lows areforecast to be in the low twenties, except in some rural areas where people may experience temperatures in the high teens, providing little or no relief from the heat," Environment Canada says.

A cool-down isexpected by Friday with a passing cold front.

Environment Canada is reminding people to never leave people or pets inside a parked vehicle.

People also need to watch forsymptoms of heat-related illness, the weather statement says, includingswelling, rash, cramps, fainting, heat exhaustion, heat stroke andthe worsening of some health conditions.
