Hamilton police investigating 2 shootings just hours apart

Hamilton police are investigating two separate shootings that happened just hours apart.

The incidents bring the total number of shootings so far this year to 23.

Police say the first shooting happened just after 6 p.m. Sunday at a downtown Tim Hortons.

Investigators were called to thecorner of Caroline and King Streets after a man who was visitingthefast food restaurant got into an argument with other men in the parking lot.

Police say one of the men pulled out a gun and fired a round into the restaurant's glass door.

No one was injured and the suspects were last seen walking past theStaybridge Suites hotel.

Police are continuing to investigate and say theyplan to release suspect descriptions once surveillance video can be reviewed.

Currently the firearm and suspects are outstanding.

15-20 people inside bar when shots fired

Just a few hours later, shots were fired for a second time outside theAl-Omara Bar onConcession Street.

Police received reports of gunshots fired around12:30 a.m. Monday and say evidence confirms a firearm was fired from the street.

There were 15-20 people inside when the trigger was pulled, but police say no one was injured.

Investigators say they currently don't have a suspect description. Officers will be canvassing the area for witnesses Monday and are asking people in the area to check their security cameras for suspicious activity.

Inresponse to the rise of shootingsin Hamilton, police have created the "Make Safetask force," which is led by the gangs and weapons enforcement unit and is trying to make connections between shootings in the city.

So far it's made dozens of arrests and seized guns, ammunition and Tasers.

Police in Brantford have also set up a task force to take on a sudden rush of gun violence there.
