3 new Ontario music releases you need to hear this week

Its that time of the week again CBC Hamilton reporter Adam Carter is back with his three picks for new Ontario music that you need to listen to this week.

Adam is on the air each week on CBC Radio for In the Key of C, hosted by Craig Norris. Hell choose three Ontario bands or artists that are releasing new music for your listening pleasure.

You can hear Adam during the show every Saturday evening at 5 p.m. on CBC Radio. In the Key of C can be heard across the province, except for the GTA. Hamilton listeners can hear this segment in the audio player above.

The Breithaupt Brothers with Ron Sexsmith: Any Day Now

Anyone who is a fan of modern jazz with pop sensibilities needs to check out the Breithaupt Brothers new album Songbook Volume II: Just Passing Through.

Its full of meticulously crafted jazz tunes, fronted by singers like Sarah Slean, Ian Thomas and Ron Sexsmith, who sings on the albums best track, Any Day Now.

Sadly, that song doesnt live on YouTube just yet, but you can hear a snippet of it in the radio segment in the audio player above. Check out this YouTube clip of Kelli OHara singing Last Call for Lovers at the Breithaupt Brothers Songbook Revue in New York City in 2010.

Drumhand: Twenty-Four Seven

Drumhands music isnt really for passive listening. The pan-Ontario group (with members from Goderich, Maple, Ottawa and Brampton) is a kind of percussive fusion, with layers of rhythm and polyrhythm playing off each other. Its great to sit down and dissect for the musically inclined out there.

Anyone who is a fan of world music, jazz horns and 7/8 time would find a lot to like here. Check out a clip of the song Twenty-Four Seven from the bands new record Contretemps in the player above, or watch this YouTube video of the band playing at The Pearl Company in Hamilton.

Amos the Transparent: This Cold Escape

Ottawa-based rock band Amos the Transparent is back with a new record called This Cold Escape.

You might know their song Greater Than Consequence a really solid track that was featured on Degrassi: The Next Generation and on The Real World: Back to New Orleans.

Singer Jonathan Chandlers voice is reminiscent of Tim Bakers from Hey Rosetta, and this band has a similar sound to theirs, too. Listen to the title track from the bands new record in the audio player above, or watch this live YouTube clip of the band on Q.
