Hamilton's downtown falcons mark Mother's Day with 4 new chicks

McKeever's Mother's Day is off to a busy start.

The peregrine falcon whocalls Hamilton's Sheraton hotel home has four new mouths to feed after her eggshatched over the weekend.

The website and Facebook page for Hamilton Falconwatchhave been crammed with photos of the fluffy white balls of feathers all clamouring for something to eat.

Three of the chicks managed to crack out of their eggs on Saturday and a fourth appeared the next morning to round out the quartet.

"After a bit of trial and error yesterday, McKeever figured out the perfect size of morsel to feed her young," read a Sunday update on the site.

"In case it isn't already obvious, we're going to needlots of volunteersto keep an eye on all these chicks as they fly around the downtown area in June and July."

McKeever is the city's newest falcon and laid her eggs in the same place Lily, a female who died earlier this year, used to roost.

Falconwatch said the predator flew over from Windsor, where she hatched in a nest at the Ambassador Bridge in 2019.

The peregrine falcon was named Hamilton's unofficial city bird in March, following an online poll.
