McMaster University says it has been notified that a graduate student has tested positive for COVID-19.

"All areas where the student was on campus have been thoroughly cleaned and are open for normal operations," reads an update for students dated August 31.

Spokesperson Wade Hemsworth said the student is the only confirmed case the university is aware of on campus.

"The student in this case notified the university quickly after testing positive and has been very helpful in sharing information which has helped McMaster respond quickly and thoroughly," he added.

Hemsworth did not provide any more specifics about the case, saying identifying information about people or the buildings they were in will only be released if it's considerednecessary for public health reasons.

McMaster says contact tracing is being carried out by public health, which will contact anyone who may have been exposed.

The updated includeda reminder that all faculty and staff must complete a COVID screening within an hour of when they expect to arrive at any university facility and follow whatever advice it provides.

McMaster says anyone who feels ill should not come to campus and instead seek medical advice.
