First 'all-Canadian' baby elephant shows off for the camera

Born on Aug. 2, she is the 14th elephant born at African Lion Safari and the first born to Canadian-born parents, park officials say.

Born on Aug. 2, Nellie already weighs over 300 lbs.

Nellie, a female Asian elephant, was born in the park on Aug. 2, said Charlie Gray, superintendent of elephants at African Lion Safari.

Shes the 14th elephant born at African Lion Safari, located just outside Hamilton, Ont., and the first "all-Canadian" elephant both of her parents were also born at the park, Gray said.

CBC Hamilton had a chance to meet Nellie, along with mother Natasha and grandmother Kitty (who also lives at the park) on Friday. Check out the video above to see what the encounter was like.
