Thousands sing along to Hip favourites in Gage Park tribute

Thousands of people gathered in Hamilton's Gage Park for a showing of the CBC broadcast of The Tragically Hip's concert in Kingston, Ont., on Saturday evening.

It wasthe final show of theTragically HipMan Machine Poemconcert tour. It wasn't the only place people gathered in Hamilton, butGage Park drew the largest crowd Saturday night, one ofmore than 400 community viewing parties across Canada.

The Kingston show was the last of a tour taken by the iconic Canadian bandafter announcing earlier this year that lead singer Gord Downie has anaggressive,incurable form of brain cancer.

HamiltonWard 3 Coun. Matthew Green, who spent $25,000 from his ward budget to put on the event, estimated there were between 5,000 and 10,000 people in Gage Park.
