A Burnaby, B.C., man has been arrested for first degree murder after a Guelph man died when he was shot in the front entrance of the Comfort Inn Hotel in Guelph's north end a year ago.

Guelph Police said there was a Canada-wide warrant for the 24-year-old Burnaby man, who was arrested by the RCMP. He will be returned to Guelph and to attend a bail hearing and will be officially charged.

The man is accused of the shooting death of Aly Sunderani, 35.

Sunderani was shot in the lobby of the hotel on Silvercreek Parkway North on March 1, 2016 just before 4:30 p.m. He was taken to hospital, but later succumbed to his injuries.

Sunderaniworked as the hotel's general manager. Reviews on the travel siteTripAdvisorsaid he was friendly and he "went above and beyond the call of duty."

Police said they believed the shooting was a planned attack directed at Sunderani and there was no risk to public safety.
