Cambridge's ward 7 byelection has been postponed"to a future date to be set by council."

The city's clerk Danielle Manton made the announcement Tuesday afternoon. The city clerk oversees administering the election and has powers under the Municipal Elections Act.

"Respecting the hard work that has gone into candidates' campaigns, this postponement should not impact their ability to continue to campaign through online platforms and social distancing," Manton wrote in a release.

Some of the nine city council hopefuls have already announced they were suspending door-to-door campaigning for the time being.

Manton said a new date will be brought before council "as soon as practicable following the end of precautionary measures."

Ballots cast during the advanced poll onMarch 7will count towards the final ballot count.
