SIU clears Guelph police in case of man found dead in hotel room

The province's Special Investigations Unit has found "no reasonable grounds" to conclude Guelph Police committed any criminal offence after the body of 25-year-old Zachary Gallant was found in a Holiday Inn Express in May this year.

The province's Special Investigations Unit has found "no reasonable grounds"to conclude Guelph Police committed any criminal offence after the body of 25-year-old Zachary Gallant was found in a Holiday Inn Express in May this year, Guelph Police said in a statement Tuesday.

Police, including the force's tactical unit, were called to the hotel at 540 Silver Creek Parkway North at 2:00 a.m.on May17by hotel staff, who saida manhad rented a room there and was causing extensive damage.

About two hours later, officers entered the room and found the man dead.

Four SIU investigators and a forensic investigator were assigned to the case.

The SIU investigates wheneverthere are cases involving police where there has been adeath, serious injury or allegations of sexual assault.
