GRT to increases bus service to Conestoga College over the next year

Grand River Transit is considering increased service and a transit hub for Conestoga College as more students take the bus to and from the college.

Grand River Transit is considering increased service and a transit hubfor Conestoga College as more students take the bus to and from the college.

According to GRT, the college saw anincrease of students taking the bus daily, from 2,000 to more than 3,300 riders over the past two years.

In response to demand,GRTsaid it is adding an additional 125 tripsand is workingwith the college to boost service in 2019.

  • Route 10 now has all-day service, with buses coming every 15 minuteson weekdays. There isalso additional service along Route 10 on the weekend.
  • There is a new Route 10A, which travels alongOld Carriage Drive on weekdays.
  • Route 110 now has trips every 15 minutes onweekdays.
  • Route 16 has more trips during the evenings on weekdays. There areplans to add more weekend trips and extendthe route to theWaterloo Public Square Stationonce ION is up and running.
  • Route 76 has extended via Robert Ferrie Drive and Thomas Slee Drive.
  • There are plans to extend Route 201from Forest Glen to Conestoga College alongBlock Line Station once ION launches.

2019 plans

In 2019, the GRTplans to further increase service and build a transit hub at the college, which will have room for nine buses and will be located in one of the school's parking lots, near the A Building.

As for bus routes, the transit service plans to increase service to the following:

  • Route 16: one trip every 15 minutes during peak times.
  • Route 57: one trip every 30 minutes throughout the day. This route will replace Route 111.
  • Route 61: midday frequencywill be increased to one trip every 30 minutes on weekdays (in the spring) and evening weekday service will be extended to midnight.
  • Route 201: more trips during peak times between the college and Block Line Station.
  • Route 203: will make stops at the college every 30 minutes on weekdays.
