LRT trains to travel faster, be more frequent as tests continue

As the region's Ion light rail service gets closer to launch, LRT trains will travel more frequent and faster on tracks.

As the region gets ready to launch its Ion transit service, LRT trains will make morefrequent appearancesand travel faster on tracks.

Over the next few weeks,trains will be travelling at speeds of up to 50 km/h on the tracks, though rains can run at speeds of up to 70 km/h, the operator warned Tuesday.

In a release, the Region of Waterloo reminded pedestrians, cyclistsand driversto stay off the tracks and treat LRT trains with the same caution as they would with other vehicles.

The region has said thelight rail transit system would go into operation in the spring of 2019.
