Guelph bank robbery marks 5th time local Scotiabank branches targeted in 1 month

A Guelph Scotiabank was robbed Wednesday at 12:30 p.m., only one day after a Scotiabank in Cambridge was targeted.

There were no injuries, but two people were taken to hospital for "precautionary reasons" after Wednesday's robbery.

Police say officers were called to the ScotiaBank located on Kortright Road W., for report of a gunpoint robbery.

The suspects are described as men with slender builds and wearing dark clothing. They had their faces covered "and at least one handgun was brandished."

They demanded cash, received an undisclosed amount of money and then "it is believed that theyleft the scene in a black, four-door sedan," police said.

Investigators are asking for anyone who witnessed the robbery or might have dashcamfootage from the area between noon and 12:45 p.m. to contact police at 519-824-1212 ext. 7226.

5 robberies in a month

The robbery comes one day after two men with handguns entered a Scotiabank in Cambridge at 3:10 p.m. and demanded cash.

The suspects in that case were given an undisclosed amount of money before they fled, police say.

A Scotiabank in Kitchener was also robbed on Feb. 27 at 11:20 a.m. In that case, Waterloo regional police reported two men "brandished weapons" and demanded money.

On Feb. 14, a man entered a King Street S., Scotiabank in Waterloo. Police said in that case a weapon was used, but police didn't say what kind.

Police also tweeted about a bank robbery at Scotiabank on Courtland Avenue E., on Feb. 23 at 1 p.m. where a man fled the area in a white car.

Police have not said if the cases are connected.
