Conestoga College gets $2.1M funding boost for senior care research

Conestoga College willreceive more than $2.1 million over the next five years to continue their research into senior care.

The funding comes in part from theNatural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and theCanadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), which was matched by other community partners.

"As the population ages, the number of seniors with complex health care needs will continue to increaseand many will require support," VeroniqueBoscart, CIHR for Conestoga College and the Schlegel industrial research chair for colleges, said in a release.

"I am excited to have the opportunity to continue my work as the chair to bring evidence formed best practices into community and residential settings."

Schlegel Villages operates 19 long-term and retirement residences throughout southwestern Ontario, including three in Waterloo region and two in Guelph.

It is also Conestoga'sprimary practice collaborator andwill also contribute $500,000 to the research over the next five years.
