Waterloo keg parties targeted by police

Waterloo Regional Police are promising to continue their crackdown on the illegal sale of booze at student house parties after police broke up two gatherings in Waterloo over the weekend, where it's alleged people were buyingbeer illegally.

Police say officers seized a keg of beer at a house party on Cardill Crescent, a street lined with a number ofrental homes and low-rise apartment buildings popular withstudents.

A 20-year-old man now faces a pair of liquor charges for what police allege was the illegal sale of beer at the party.

That same night, police also sent revelers home froma large house party on Hemlock Street, just north of the Wilfrid Laurier University campus.

Officers seized a pair of beer kegs from the home and charged a 19-year-old man with two liquor offences for allegedly selling booze to his guests.

Police say they'll continue to investigate house parties and lay charges "where appropriate," as part of what police are callingProject Safe Semester, which aims to "proactively dissuade and discourage unlawful activity and public disorder."
