Octogenarian cyclist remains in critical condition as police search for driver

An 85-year-old man issufferinglife threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle that fled the scene in the city's east end.

London police were called to Dundas and Hale Streets at about 6 p.m. on Tuesday after receiving multiple reports that a cyclist had been hit.

Policeput out a call Wednesday asking witnesses to the accident to come forward as they continue tosearch for the driver.

The identity of the 85-year-old man has not been released.

Edgar Zapataowns Marvel Pizza on Hale Street, next to where the cyclist was hit. He was working when he heard the sirens of emergency crews rushing tothe scene.

"I walked outside and I saw a bike on the street and a school bag[on the ground].The bike was mangled, the frame was completely bent."

"I felt really sad," he said.

Police temporarily closed Dundas Street between Highbury Avenue and Hale Street for their investigation.
