Strong winds lead to downed trees, debris as tornado warning lifted for London region

Environment Canada issued a tornado warning for London and the surrounding region shortly before noon Sunday.

Meanwhile, a heat warning remains in effect for the area

Environment Canada has lifteda tornado warning issued for London and the surrounding region Sunday morning.

The weather agency said at around 11:15 a.m. thatthey weretracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado in London, Parkhill, Strathroy, Komoka and Eastern and Western Middlesex County.

"Damaging winds, large hail and locally intense rainfall are also possible," read the warning, which was lifted around noon.

Environment Canada said a line of thunderstorms from Lucan to Seaforth may produce several tornadoes with wind gusts of up to 100 km/h.

The agency is reminding people to take cover immediately if threatening weather approaches.

Meanwhile, a heat warning remains in effect for the area as a hot and humid air mass rolls through southwestern Ontario

The daytime in London is expected to reach 33 C, with a humidex value of 42 C.

The weather agency expects things to slightly cool off by Monday when the daytime high is expected to fall to 28 C.
