Six-year-old boy released from hospital after apartment fire

About 30 people were forced from their apartments after a fire broke out in the building at King Street between Adelaide and Lyle streets just before midnight Sunday.

Two units at the Tolpuddle housing co-op were destroyed, though all residents got out without serious injury.

One six-year-old boy was taken to hospital for observation after he complained of a sore throat. He was released Monday morning.

District Fire Chief John Hunt said when his crews arrived the front porch was engulfed in flames.

"It spread from there and went up to the second floor and into the attic. It was going right to the roof within minutes of our arrival," Hunt explained.

It took firefighters about three hours to get the fire under control.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
