Alberta dog found in Manitoba, missing more than 6 months

Rocky, a dog from Alberta who had been missing since October 2014, has been found about 1,350 kilometres away in Manitoba.

A dog from Alberta who had been missing for more than sixmonthswas found in Manitoba and reunited with his owner.

The dog named Rocky was turned in to the Winnipeg Humane Society on April 20,after hewas spotted in Stonewall, Man.

Staff at the animal shelter said the dog had a microchip which helped them track down the owner in Calgary about1,350 kilometres away from Stonewall.

It turns out Rocky had been missing since Oct.15, 2014.

Rocky's owner,Shauna Doyle, told CBC Newsshe was at work when she got acall from staff atthe Winnipeg Humane Society on Monday,sayingRocky had been found.

"My phone rangand I, like, completely burst into tears, and my co-worker is rapidly handing me Kleenexwhile I'm on the phone crying, because they're like, 'Oh,we found your dog,' and I'm like, 'Oh my God, I'm so happy!'" Doyle said.

Doyle drove all the way from Calgary to Winnipeg with a friend on Wednesdayto pick him up at the shelter.

She said it was a very happy reunion.

"I just said, 'Hey,baby!' He looks at me, and I'm in a hunched position because I don't want him jumping on my stomach because I'm only 4months pregnant," Doyle said.

"He completely threw me onto my back and was like licking the crap out of me!"

Doyle said she had no idea how Rocky ended up in Manitoba.

"It's a complete mystery, but I'm just gladthat he's safe and sound and not roadkill," she said, adding thatshenever gave up hope that Rocky would be found one day.

Officials at the Winnipeg Humane Societygive credit to the microchip that Rocky had. Staffwant to remind pet owners about the importance of keeping theiridentification information up to date.
