Body of aboriginal woman found in East St. Paul

The body of what appears to be an aboriginal woman has been found at Winnipeg's North Perimeter Highway and Highway 59.

Police received a 911 call shortly before 3 p.m. Thursday afternoonadvising that the body of an aboriginal femalehad beenfound, RCMP saidFriday. The call came from a boy, 14, who was walking his dog.

A black car also was found parked not far from the body.

East St. Paul RCMP secured the scene and police say the death is considered suspicious. The identity of the dead woman has not been confirmed. Anautopsy is scheduled Saturday at St. Boniface Hospital. "Right now what is happening is we are putting our best foot forwardto try andidentify this individual," RCMP Sgt. Line Karpish said. "That has yet to happen."

The remains were found on a dirt path in a sparsely populated area.

The RCMP's Serious Crime Unit is assisting the East St. Paul detachment with the investigation. The Winnipeg Police Service also is involved since the location is just on the outskirts of the city.
