A 24-year-old man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly shooting another man and then confessing his sins at a Brandon church while hiding from police Saturday night.

Police were called around 5:40 p.m. to the 300 block of 10th Street after reports of a gunshot and an altercation between two men Saturday night.

Soon after, police received a call from a local hospital about a 38-year-old man who was receiving emergency treatment for a single gunshot wound to his torso.

Not long after that call, another call came in, this time from someone at a local church who said the suspect told them he had shot someone and was hiding from police.

Police have since recovered a .22 calibre revolver handgun from a dumpster in the the 300 block between 9th and 10thStreet.

The shooting wasn't random and police believe the two men know each other.

The victim has been released from hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
