Brandon woman's ID lifted from Facebook

A young Brandon woman is claiming her identity was stolen from a popular social-networking website and used to foster a relationship with a man at an online dating service.

Alex Marshall, 19, said an unknown man contacted her earlier this week to tell her another person was using information and pictures stolen from her Facebook profile.

She said she learned the information was used toestablish and maintain a relationship with a manat a dating website for about a year.

"It was just so shocking to see they lied to him and hurt him using my pictures. It was the weirdest feeling," Marshall said.

Marshall told CBC News she filed a police report but officers said there is nothing they can do.

She contacted administrators at Facebook and even sent messages to the imposter who had an Ontario area code. But there's been no response.

Marshall said she had one of the highest privacy settings available to her on Facebook but that wasn't good enough.

She's cautioning others to beware.
