CAA Manitoba launches Worst Roads campaign

CAA Manitoba launched their annual Worst Roads campaign in Winnipeg on Tuesday.

The annual campaign has Manitobans vote for roads across the province based on their issues with things like congestion and safety.

Mike Mager, the president and CEO of CAA Manitoba, said roads have to meet a number of criteria in order to get the dubious distinction.

Last year, Winnipeg took three of the top five spots with St. James Street, Berry Street and Ness Avenue, but Brandon got the top honour for the city's Victoria Avenue.

But every year there are some repeat offenders, Mager said.

At this point McGillivray Avenue comes up frequently, Kenaston comes up frequently, King Edward North comes up frequently those are the ones that are very common, said Mager.

Earlier this month, CAA Manitoba said they thought this year could be the worst Winnipeg has ever seen for pot holes and encouraged the City of Winnipeg to come up with a better plan to tackle them.

Its just completely unacceptable, I would say shameful, that our roads are in this sort of state, said Mager.

He said the contest has had an impact on what roads are fixed provincially, but he hasnt seen the same impact in Winnipeg.

Theyve addressed some of the issues but not as strongly as wed like to see, said Mager.
