Police ask for help in $3.5M Waverley condo fire investigation

A WaverleyStreet fire that caused millions of dollars of damage in October mightbe connected to a break-in at a nearby construction site, police say, and they're asking for information that can help them find the culprits.

An under-construction condominium complex in the 2400 block ofWaverley Street was engulfed in flames by the time emergency crews arrived in the early morning hours of Oct. 21.

A construction site at 100 Southview Cres. was broken into around the same time, police said Thursday. Evidence of alcohol consumption andan accelerant were found at that site,and police believe the people who broke into the Southview propertymay be connected to the Waverley fire.

The fire caused an estimated $3.5 million damage. Nearby homes were evacuated during the fire as a precaution. No one was injured in the blaze.
