Coun. Fielding won't run for Winnipeg mayor

Scott Fielding said not only is he not going to run for mayor, he's not going to run again for his council seat.

The St. James-Brooklandscouncillorhas served in his post since 2006 but will not be returning for a third term.

He said he always supported the idea of a two-term limit and when it came to running for mayor, Fielding said the numbers just weren't adding up.

"One candidate on the left that, you know, has about 35 to 40 per cent of the vote and you have three, potentially four other candidates on the right of centre, he said. I chaired finance for six years but you don't have to be an expert in math to know that it's tough to see how the numbers add up."

Thus far Gord Steeves and Coun.Paula Havixbeck have entered the mayoral race, as have lawyer Brian Bowman, Michel Fillion, Mike Vogiatkakis and Gordon Warren.

When asked if he willmake a jump to provincial or federal politics, Fielding said he'll have an announcement in a few weeks.
