Dead puppy, multiple dogs removed from Winnipeg home

Manitoba's chief veterinary office removed a dead puppy and rescued several more adult dogs from a home in Winnipeg's Valley Gardens area Tuesday, as it continues to investigate reports of five other puppies being found dead.

Manitoba's chief veterinary office removed a dead puppy and rescued several more adult dogs from a home in Winnipeg'sValley Gardens area Tuesday, as itcontinues to investigate reports of fiveother puppies being found dead.

A local dog rescue directortold CBC News that at least five dogs, all puppies, were found dead at a residence in Winnipeg. Approximately10 to 15 other dogs were also found alive in the home with varying degrees of illness.

The residence belongs to a director of another Winnipeg dog rescue group and the dogs were in the care of this group, according to the dog rescue director CBC News spoke with.

Several members of the dog rescue community submitted photos of the dogs inside the home to CBC.

The photos show several dogs and cages in unsanitary conditions. The photos also show at least one dog having multiple sores on its face and paws.

The Winnipeg Humane Society confirmed it dispatched a teamto an address in the city,but wouldn't provide more specific details as to where, to assist the provincial veterinarian's office (PVO).

The humane society would not comment further as all cases of animal welfare are handled by the PVO, but the executive director says one of the dogs is in their care as itneeded medical attention.
