Construction at the Centennial-area park began earlier this summer, and on Friday, Coun. Mike Pagtakhan showed off the new digs to a classroom full of children from the nearby Dufferin School.

Mrs. Rodriguez, who is a teacher at Dufferin School, came to me about eight years ago and challenged me and said, My students have some ideas about how to improve the neighbourhood. They want to keep it clean, they want to keep it well lit, they want a new library, they want a crosswalk, they want a new park, and I thought, Whoa! Thats a lot of stuff! said Pagtakhan. Through the years we actually did clean up the neighbourhood.

The park, at Logan Avenue and Gunnell Street, has two brand-new play structures, a new swing set and freshly laid sod.

Weve had a really good dialogue in terms of what they believe the community needs and together weve made progress on all those things, he said.
