Coun. Ross Eadie wants Winnipeg's mayor to be subject to the same scrutiny as city councillors when it comes to office expenses.

Eadie (Mynarski) has authored a motion calling on the city to publicly report a breakdown of the mayor's office expenses, much the same way the city publishes a breakdown of council ward allowances.

"It's not that I have the issue with Mayor Bowman's spending. I just want all of our offices to be under the same scrutiny," Eadiesaid Tuesday in an interview.

"Councillors are not much different than the mayor. He has a bigger budget, so he has more power. That should be under scrutiny."

Eadie's motion, seconded by St. Charles Coun. Shawn Dobson, will be presented to council Wednesday. It will be referred automatically to the next regular meeting of council's executive policy committee, which is slated for Nov. 23.

The motion calls for a breakdown of day-to-day spending by the mayor's office, expenses related to running EPCmeetings held in public as well as behind closed doors and expenses related to mayor's policy office and other advisory committees.

The motion also calls for an annual update to the mayor's-office organizational chart.

Mayor Brian Bowman "agrees with the spirit behind the motion" and will review it along with city clerks, spokesman Jeremy Davis said in a statement.
