Fire forces evacuation of industrial plant in Winnipeg

Pallets of cardboard are watered down after a fire at an industrial plant on Messier Street in Winnipeg's Mission Industrial area.

Emergency crews were called to a fire atWinnipeg's Mission Industrial Park on Thursday.

Bales and pallets of packed cardboard were ignited at Industrial Metals in the 500 block of Messier Street and the flamedbegan to quickly spread.

The building, which had about 20 employees inside, was evacuated.

No one was hurt.

Most of the bales in the compound were pulled out and hosed down.

Damage is estimated at $5,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
