One of the oldest buildings inGlenboro, Man.went up in flames on Saturdaynight after it caught fire around 6 p.m.

Volunteer firefighters fromGlenboroand nearby Cypress River, Man. battled the blaze with two pumper trucks.

The building that burned was the oldGlenboroHospital, and was built in 1900, according to one of the village's residents, Keith Anderson, who lives across from the structure that was converted into what he calls a"nice home" several years ago.

"I looked outside and saw some flashing blue and red lights," he said."Then I saw a lot of smoke coming from the roof and attic. It didn't take long before the roof went up."

No one lived in the home recently, and late on Saturdaynight there were no reports of injuries or anyone in the house when the fire started.

Besides fighting the fire with wind chill values in the30s, fire crews faced challenges becausea seniors home is right beside the building and a personal care home is behind it, Anderson said.

"The fire department was on the backside keeping flames away from those buildings. They did a good a job. There was no way they could put it out so they kept it under control," he said.

Anderson saidthe fire was out after a couple of hours, noting the brick structure is still standing but the inside is gutted.

"I could see people being upset the old hospital is gone," he said.
