Firefighters battle flames at home in East Kildonan

Crews are at the scene of a house fire in Winnipeg's East Kildonan.

Eight fires reported between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday

Crews were called to the scene of a house fire on the 200 block of Roberta Avenue, just before 2 a.m Wednesday morning.

Crews areat the scene of a house fire in Winnipeg's East Kildonan neighbourhood.

They were called to the200 block ofRoberta Avenuejust before 2 a.m.

Police say the home was vacant at the time and might have been under renovation.

A few hours earlier, and not far away,firefighters were called toextinguisha blaze at a garage onMcPhail Street near Henderson Highway around 10:30 p.m.

The flames destroyed a vehicle and spread to the garage.

No one was hurt.

According to Alex Forrest, president of the United Firefighters of Winnipeg, there were eight fires reported between 6 p.m. Tuesday and 2 a.m. Wednesday.

Other than the ones atRoberta and McPhail, the fires were minorones garbage bins, fences, trees.

Those come on the heels of numerous fires a day earlier, when crews were dispatched to a total of 12 blazesbetween 7:30 p.m. Monday and 7 a.m. Tuesday.
