Some ham radio enthusiasts in Winnipeg are sticking with an "original" form ofwireless technology, despite the popularity of Twitter and text messages these days.

Amateur radio operators like Adam Romanchuk say the newer technologies, like Wi-Fi and cellphone networks, may be more user-friendly, but they haven't really improved on the reach and reliability of a good radio.

"As long as I have a good antenna and a reasonable radio set, I can hook a car battery to it and talk to somebody in Russia," he said.
