Scorching heat wave slides into Manitoba

A large swath of Manitoba, including the entire south and much of theeastern half, is getting blanketed with heat.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement that is worded exactly the same, whether you are in Melita in thesouthwest corner or around Gods Lake in the northeast part of the province.

A hot air mass is being ushered into Manitoba beginning Friday and will settle over the area throughout the weekend. Daytime temperatures in the low- to mid-30sare expected for Saturday and Sunday with overnight lows in the upper teens or low 20s.

A cold front tracking into western Manitoba will likely bring some slight relief to some areas over the later part of the weekend but not all.

The Red River Valley, Interlake and eastern portions of the province are expected to be under the heat wave well into the middle of next week.

Winnipeg is looking at a high around 29 C on Friday while the forecasthigh of33 C on Saturday could feel more like 38 with the humidity.

The long-range forecast for the city shows temperatures between 27 C and 31 C for most of the week.

Normal temperatures Winnipeg at this time of year are a daytime high of 25 C and an overnight low of 12 C.

It's going to be even hotter around cottage country and further east. FromVictoria Beach to Bissett, the forecast is for highsbetween 30 C and 32 C throughout the coming week.
