Man, 62, dies after being found injured outside in central Winnipeg

Winnipeg police are investigating the first homicide of 2024 after a seriously injured man was found lying outside on Thursday morning.

Winnipeg police are investigating the first homicide of 2024 after a seriously injured man was found lying outside on Thursday morning.

Police were called around7:30 a.m. toFurby Street, between Bannatyne and William avenues, in the city's West Alexander neighbourhood, near Health Sciences Centre.

They foundDaniel Jawbone, 62, who was rushed to hospital in critical condition but died from his injuries, police said in a news release on Friday.

Around 9 a.m., police arrested 59-year-old Derin Hanninen at a nearby apartment on the same block of Furby. He is charged with second-degree murder.

Investigators allege Jawbone wasassaulted byHanninen during an altercation in Hanninen's suite.
