Winnipeg firefighters rescue person trapped in burning house

A person was rushed to hospital in critical condition on Tuesday morning after being rescued from a burning home near downtown Winnipeg.

A person was rushed to hospital in critical condition on Tuesday morning after being rescued from a burning home near downtown Winnipeg.

Emergency crews were called just after 3 a.m. to a 1-storey house on Young Street, south ofSargent Avenue, and found heavy smoke flowing out when they arrived.

A number of residents got out of the home before the fire crews arrived but saidsomeone was still trapped inside, a news release fromthe city said.

Firefightersfound the person and got them outside where they could be assessed by paramedics and rushed to the hospital. No information was provided on the person's age or sex.

The fire was declared under control just after 3:30 a.m.

Damage estimates are not yet available and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
